HAPPYBABY and Project Peanut Butter share a common goal, to give children everywhere the healthiest food to maximize their development and optimize their growth.

Project Peanut Butter was founded by Mark Manary, a pediatrician who is saving the lives of starving children in Malawi with a revolutionary treatment: peanut butter. His treatment could become a worldwide standard of care. In Malawi, a small country in Southeast Africa, malnutrition affects 70% of all children in the nation with an estimated 13% of children dying before the age of five years old from malnutrition. Traditional methods of treating malnourished children are not working—only 25% of starving children fully recover. The children are brought to overcrowded clinics where a percentage die from communicable diseases. Milk formula based feeding requires sterile water, is perishable, and must be mixed and administered by a nurse.

Manary's solution is Plumpy Nut, a peanut based paste rich in protein and fats with a complete complement of vitamins and minerals. As peanuts are indigenous to Africa, Plumpy Nut can be manufactured locally, importing only additional vitamins and minerals. Peanuts are a local food, so peanut allergies are virtually non-existent in Africa. The paste is resistant to bacterial contamination due to its low water content and does not require cooking. This is a tremendous advantage because it removes the burden of having to collect firewood and provides an easy way to produce nutritious food. Children no longer have to travel great distances for treatment—they can be given Plumpy Nut right at home. The success rate is 89.9% (compared to 25%) and even higher in some regions. For every unit sold, HAPPYBABY will work with Project Peanut Butter to feed a starving child Plumpy Nut for one whole day.
