Not sure what to do with all those empty PUFFS containers? You are already storing art supplies in them but now you can make an art project with them too. These are perfect for a indoor craft project on those cold winter days when you can't get outside. You can even make a few so the children can have a Penguin Family.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I don’t know what’s better: the comfort food or the friends and family coming together to eat it. I always loved helping my mom put the marshmallows on top of the sweet potatoes. That was my addition to the feast: marshmallows. (It’s a wonder I became such an organic, healthy foods lover. Although, I suppose my mom was using organic sweet potatoes, so a few marshmallows couldn’t hurt, right?)

One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting on the front porch with my parents and sisters and helping my dad carve a pumpkin into a Jack-O-Lantern. I use the word “help” loosely here, as when I was very young, I obviously was more of a spectator; but as I grew up, I took on more responsibility with the annual pumpkin carving activity, from poking out the pre-cut eye holes to carefully bringing my dad the knife to eventually carving myself.

One of my favorite things about September is that it’s the beginning of apple picking season. There’s just something about eating an apple that you picked that makes it taste so much better than the ones you buy at the grocery store. Maybe it’s that whole “work for your food” idea, or maybe it’s just knowing how fresh it is—you don’t get much more “farm to table” than picking an apple yourself and slicing it up for a quick snack later. Either way, spending a day apple picking is a great escape from the busy city and a fun activity to do with the whole family. I always come home with bags of apples and no less than 5 new recipes for various apple pies, tarts, and ciders. And despite my ambitious recipes and sincere intentions of becoming a culinary apple genius, every year, I still end up with extra apples (and a little guilt for over-picking.)
